Different Year, same old Mariners attitude

Every year fellow Mariner fans we have a slight ray of hope that this team that we faithfully support will finally wake up and do what needs to be done. What needs to be done you might ask? To some, (meaning most Mariner fans like myself) the answer is simple, but for the incompetent ownership and management group of the Mariners, the answer to the many problems this team has faced is a hard one to find. Before reading any further, the bottom line of this  article and the reason that I am writing it,  is to point out that Mariners Chairman and CEO Howard Lincoln and his sidekick President and COO, Chuck Armstrong have built an absolute hell hole for players and fans alike.

To start off, the answer to the problems that were mentioned briefly, my friends and fellow Mariner faithful fans is not blowing in the wind, and it is not rocket science, the answer is money. Not just money but spending money to get that prized free agent (cough cough Prince Fielder), it's not out of the realm of possibility for this team to spend some money and actually act like it cares about winning (Charlie Sheen reference).  I know I am probably missing something here and there are many reasons that M's management refuses to explain to us as to why they can't shell out the money for 1 or 2 prize free agents but I digress.

Secondly, I am getting sick of the blatant lies from the Mariners ownership group. For example,  year after year and time after time, we are fed the same BS lines from Howard and Chuck, "We don't have enough money to put together a winner" or the ever popular line of "Give us some more time, it takes time to build a team. Well Howard and Chuck, ten years is way too damn long to build a team, and might I add, that is ten years of losing. Did you read that correctly Howard and Chuck, TEN FREAKING YEARS OF LOSING, that's ridiculous and downright pathetic.

Well Howard and Chuck, you sure as hell had enough money when you signed Richie Sexson or Adrian Beltre. So, what the hell is the difference between now and then? What has changed since signing the high priced free agents I just mentioned? Did Major League Baseball suddenly get a really strict salary cap that I'm not aware of? If not, there is no excuse not to spend the money. Now I do know that in Major League Baseball, as well as in other sports even when high priced players are let go, their salaries still remain on the books, and that may be a good excuse but for me and my fellow fans that is a load of crap excuse in my opinion.

Think about it this way fellow Mariner fans, when was the last time you remember hearing about the Mariners and not seeing the words laughing stock of Major League Baseball attached to the conversation?  I can't say that I have heard much good talk about the Mariners lately and for good reason, they're losers plain and simple, and as much as it pains me to say as a fan this team sucks, no way to sugarcoat that at all. Going back to my original question however, the last time I ever heard anything good about the M's was back in 2001 when they set the American League record with 116 wins. Since then it has all been negative BS, and nothing but ruin and destruction for the Mariners. As I mentioned, continued lies by the organization's management group have torn them down to the team we see barely standing today.

Let me stop my bashing of Howard and Chuck in the article for a little bit and explain something to all of you readers out there. One name you will not hear mentioned in the criticism of this team by me is General Manager  Jack Zduriencik. Why? Because he is doing the best he can with the very little resources that Howard and Chuck are giving him  Of course they are giving him full control but they, as I previously mentioned aren't giving him the money to spend at all and that leads to failure.  I do have to say that I'm sure if things continue to spiral out of control, Howard and Chuck will  ultimately fire Jack Z. They will fire him in my opinion, because they have to find a goat and of course they can't blame themselves so someone has to lose their job.  The Mariners ownership group has no balls, it has to be someone else who is at fault it couldn't be them, so Jack Z as much as I would hate to see it happen would lose his job.

Next up, I have to address the almost certain fate of Felix Hernandez or King Felix as some of you call him. Before you start coming after me, Hernandez is a talented pitcher but I believe with the way the M's are being run into the ground that his time in Seattle might soon come to an end. I would like to believe that Mariners management isn't stupid enough to downright release him but Hernandez himself could very well demand a trade. Who could blame Hernandez if he did ask for a trade, I sure as hell wouldn't. How long can you be the face of a franchise that has no clear direction nor does it have a desire to put a winning ball club on the field. In my eyes, Hernandez can't be happy with the continued losing ways of the franchise and as sad as it sounds it may be time for him to go. Trust me I'm not calling for the M's to let Hernandez go, I am merely saying that he might choose to leave on his own. I would hate to lose a talent like him from the team, but it might be the price the management group has to pay for not wanting to build a winning club.

Lastly, I know there are many faithful Mariner fans such as myself out there and a lot of you who have spent money on Mariners season tickets but I have a plea to my fellow Mariner fans. Don't go to the games, don't buy any more Mariners merchandise, don't renew your season tickets, and lastly don't support the team until they give a clear indication that they actually respect our fan ship of the team by building a winner. I'm not saying don't watch the games on TV, I'm saying don't waste your time and energy and gas on driving down to Safeco Field just to watch the team, save your money and spend it on something more worth it.

Howard and Chuck, if by some miracle you end up reading this, listen to us fans, we are sick of your do nothing attitude toward this team, hopefully you will do something worth a crap soon. We can only hope......
