Seahawks 7-Round Mock Draft

Now THIS is where it gets fun.  As a Seahawk fan and draft geek, I get just as excited about the third day of the draft as I do the first.  And as long as Jon Schneider and Pete Carroll are the ones running the draft, there’s a chance starters can be found in every round.  Consider that only 2 of our 5 (FIVE!!!) Pro Bowlers this year were 1st round picks.  Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman were both 5th rounders, while Brandon Browner was a free-agent after playing in Canada.  These guys can find talent.

I know that many of you want the Hawks to make a move for a QB in the first round, but I just don’t see that scenario unfolding.  There’s a chance Ryan Tannehill could fall to them, but it’s a long shot.  We could also see Matt Flynn signed when free agency starts in March, but for now, I’m projecting the Hawks to fill another glaring need on Day #1 of the draft.

So here’s an early look at how I see it unfolding.  A lot can, and will, change over the next couple of months, but that just makes it more fun.  More mocks to come!!!!

1st Round – Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama
(6-2, 265)
Precisely what the Seahawks need to add to their front 7.  Long arms, violent, with enough speed to get to the passer.  Versatile; can play OLB or rush end.  Would start from Day 1 and immediately upgrade our pass rush.

2nd Round – Brock Osweiler, QB, Arizona State
(6-8, 240)
Elite talent, he just needs time.  The Hawks provide the perfect situation for him to develop.  He sits behind Jackson for a year and plays in 2013.  Ridiculously tall but extremely athletic for his size with good feet and the ability to throw on the run. When he sets his feet he can drive the ball down field with the best of them.  Makes all the throws, and is a dynamic personality and competitor.  It’s not often you get the chance to grab a potential Top 10 QB in the second round.  This is that chance.

3rd Round – Doug Martin, RB, Boise State
(5-9, 215)
One of the most gaping holes on the depth chart in 2011 was at RB behind Marshawn Lynch.  Leon Washington and Justin Forsett were situational backs, neither of them capable of handling the load if Lynch goes down, (remember Cleveland? Ouch!) Don’t be fooled by Martin’s size, he is an extremely tough inside runner who can also bounce it outside and hit the home run.  Catches the ball well also.  Would be an ideal compliment to Lynch.

4th Round – Bobby Wagner, ILB, Utah State
(6-1, 232)
Solid vs the run and the pass.  Looks good in Senior Bowl workouts.  Would provide depth at MLB with the ability to start if needed.

5th Round – Chase Ford, TE, Miami
(6-6, 245)
Doesn’t posses elite speed, but is tall and athletic with outstanding hands.  Inexperience and raw, but could be developed into a true weapon.  Has the type of frame to add more weight.  Willing blocker.  Looked good at the East-West Shrine Game.

6th Round – Juron Criner, WR, Arizona
(6-4, 215)
Concerns about his character but not his talent.  Looks fluid and natural, and catches the ball away from his body.  Can separate for a guy his size and makes the tough catch.  Looking good at Senior Bowl, and after the combine and workouts he may end up being long gone by the 6th round.

7th Round – Wayne Tribue, OG, Temple
(6-4, 324)
Underrated talent who fills a depth need for the Seahawks.  Good run blocker.

7th Round – Josh Kaddu, OLB, Oregon
(6-3, 235)
*Pick acquired from Oakland in Aaron Curry trade.
Versatile with long arms.  Can drop into coverage and rush the passer at times.  Would have to make his mark on special teams but would provide solid depth at LB.

  1. 3rd Round – Doug Martin, RB, Boise State over LaMichael James, University of Oregon? Is this because you think he is gone already or for other reasons? He is also smaller but a great hard hitting runner.

    1. he will be gone before we get to him

  2. LMJ is a Reggie Bush clone, his major impact on a team would be as a 3rd down specialist or as a returner.

  3. I'm not sold on Osweiller. He didn't look good against a weak Boise State Secondary in the Vegas Bowl.

  4. We don't have a 5th round pick this year.
